Sussex Street Community Law Service participates in educating the public and other agencies in their areas of expertise relating to their programs. All units have an obligation under their program funding to offer Community Legal Education to clients either individually or in groups.
Sessions can be as short as one hour for a brief session on a particular subject such as budget training, or can be as long as four hours to educate the community on issues such as loan contracts, self advocacy, Centrelink, tenancy, bankruptcy and superannuation.
Community groups and organisations that identify a need for education in any of the areas of services delivered by Sussex Street are encouraged to contact the office for further details on how to organise community education for their members or clients. The Financial Counsellors can also offer training as part of a professional development program to employees, students or professional organisations.
In addition to offering the training to groups Sussex Street offers free accredited Family Law information sessions on children's issues. These 1½ hour sessions run in the evenings on a regular basis to interested members of the public. If demand warrants it information sessions will also be conducted on property issues.
Further information can be obtained by contacting the office on 6253 9500
