If you are not making an insurance claim and wish to arrange your own repairs it is wise to have more than one quotation detailing costs. Choose the quotation and garage that seems most reasonable.
If you end up disagreeing with the standard of repair and cost of work, you can contact the Ministry of Fair Trading (Consumer Affairs) (Ph: (08) 9222 0777) for advice.
If the bill is less than $7,500 you can make a claim under the Minor Claims Procedure of the Magistrates Court. A consumer filing a claim under the Minor Cases Procedure must pay a fee of $63. This fee will be waived if you are the holder of a Commonwealth Health Care Card, are under 18years of age or receive AUSTUDY, ABSTUDY or have received Legal Aid in relation to the proceedings.
