3. VEHICLE DAMAGE

Call Police if Damage is Serious

If damage to cars is over $1000, call the police or report details of the crash immediately to the nearest police station. Any damage involving more than a bump or a scratch is likely to cost more than $1000 to repair.

If Damage is Not Serious, Report to Police within 24 hours

Notifying the police of when and where the accident took place is often important for insurance claims. If damage is not serious, report the accident to the police and your insurance company as soon as you can.

Mark the Accident Site and Move Cars

Clear the vehicles and debris off the road. Mark the position of the vehicles on the road and sketch the details of the crash scene. If the vehicles can't be moved, set up a warning system for other cars using headlights, hazard lights or someone, preferably in light clothing, standing 200 meters from the crash site.
