1.1 Stop and Help
After a crash the law requires drivers involved to stop and help any person who is injured.
1.2. Call the Police
After the crash you must stop to see if anyone is hurt and exchange personal details (name, address and insurer) with the other driver, unless injury prevents this. If someone is injured or killed in the crash, or if damage to cars or other property is more than $1000, the police must be contacted. All details should be given to police at the site of the crash or, should a police officer not be present, within 24 hours of the crash occurring
1.3. Give Information
Drivers involved in a crash must give anyone who has reasonable grounds for asking, their licence number, name and address, the name and owner of the vehicle and the registration number of the car. Particulars of the crash must be given to the police if they ask for them. There is no requirement for drivers to give details of the crash to anyone except police.
1.4. Clean up
Any debris or broken glass should be moved off the road. If injury stops the driver from clearing the road, it should be cleared by whoever takes the damaged vehicles away (e.g. tow truck driver).
