Chapter 7:  Challenging Government Decisions

This chapter concerns those legal principles and practices, generally known as administrative law, which enable an individual to challenge an unsatisfactory decision by government officers or agencies. The types of remedies available by way of judicial review or administrative action are discussed, and associated rights under freedom of information legislation and rights of complaint to the state and commonwealth Ombudsman are addressed. Complaints about decisions made by private individuals or professionals (such as lawyers and doctors) are addressed separately in Chapter 28: LEGAL ASSISTANCE and Chapter 9: CONSUMER PROTECTION, while information about complaints about police can be found in Chapter 4: ARREST, INTERROGATION AND BAIL.
