The interrelationship between humans and the environment has been the subject of a growing body of law in the last three decades. This largely reflects increasing knowledge and concern over the impacts of human activities on air, water, land and biodiversity.
This chapter provides an overview of planning and environment law in Western Australia. The focus will be on ways individuals can more effectively participate in planning and environmental decision-making processes.
Due to the number of laws applying to environmental protection, it is not possible to deal with all of them in this chapter. A useful source of additional information on current environmental laws is the Environmental Defenders Office in Perth.
