Volunteers
Sussex Street Community Law Service Inc services rely on the continued assistance of volunteers'. We are extremely grateful for this assistance which comes in many forms. The Sussex Street Centre was set up in 1978 to provide social work services through the placement of social work students. The first legal advice service that were delivered by Sussex Street Community Law Service Inc commenced in 1982 and was in the form of volunteer solicitors see history for more information on both of these services.
Solicitors
The Night Legal Service is run on Monday and Thursday nights to provide advice to those unable to afford legal advice or assistance through Legal Aid. Without the ongoing pro bono assistance provided by the many solicitors on our roster the service would not operate. Throughout the years there have been in excess of sixty volunteer solicitors. The Management of Sussex Street Community Law Service Inc sincerely thanks those people for their continued support. Some solicitors have been on the roster for more than twenty years. However we are always on the lookout for new volunteers, so if you are able to contribute to this valuable service we would love to hear from you.
Students
Following on from our origins we continue to provide opportunities for students studying law, social work and administration to do their fieldwork placements at Sussex Street Community Law Service Inc. It is our view that the benefits are reciprocal; on the one hand the student is gaining a valuable opportunity to put the theory of their studies into practice and get practical experience in the real world. Conversely Sussex Street Community Law Service has a trained person with all the latest knowledge and industry skills they have studied willing to pass that on to the staff. We welcome expressions of interest from students, universities and TAFE colleges wanting a placement to contact us. |
